How does Norethisterone work?

Norethisterone is a synthetic hormone mimicking natural progesterone which is available in 5mg tablets primarily used for period delay, extending the cycle for up to 17 days. Normally the levels of progesterone drop before your period and norithisterone mimics the female hormones and keeps the progesterone levels high which inhibits ovulation and delays menstruation. It is crucial to note that Norethisterone is not a contraceptive method and does not prevent pregnancy. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid its use. (Sildenafil) and Cialis (Tadalafil). Cleland Pharmacy & Travel Clinic in Lanarkshire is dedicated to providing discreet solutions to enhance your overall well-being.

How should I take Norithisterone?

Women of childbearing age are recommended to take norithisterone 5mg three times a day with water. To effectively delay periods, initiate the medication three days before the anticipated start of your period. Continue the tablets for the desired duration, and upon cessation, a period bleed typically occurs within 2 to 3 days, with some variation. Do not take the tablets for more than 17 days as using the medication for an extended period of time can have adverse effects. Cleland Pharmacy & Travel Clinic provide a maximum of 60 tablets to facilitate the 17 day period delay. It is advisable to request norithisterone only once every 4 months as it is designed for occasional use.

Who can take norithisterone?

As with all medicines there are some people who cannot take norithisterone. It is not recommended in those who have asthma or migraines as norithisterone may trigger these.

If currently taking a contraceptive pill, refrain from using Norethisterone for period delay. For those using combined contraceptive pills like microgynon, an alternative approach involves taking two months consecutively, skipping the 7-day pill-free break or placebo/inactive pills. This method is not applicable to progesterone-only pills like cerazette. It is essential to understand that Norethisterone is not a contraceptive and does not prevent pregnancy.

Are there side effects of taking Norithisterone?

Given that use of norithisterone is only for occasional use, side effects are limited. However, there are some common side effects including rashes, dizziness, headaches, nausea and breast tenderness.
